The small, but expensive restaurant sat on the corner of 120 East and 56th, the small lights glowing softly in the dark sky. The couple sat in silence, and, to the public eye, looked as if they just had nothing to say. Really, Aurora was thinking of numerous was to kill the freak in front of her.
“So, what’s on the agenda to-“
“Shut the fuck up Jeremy. I mean it. I don’t feel too hot, and you’re just adding to the headache, alright? So…just be quite and this wont end that violently.” Aurora snapped, lifting her head up quickly, trying to look him down to the best of her abilities. Her vision was about as terrible as it had ever gotten. Two months and six days since the last time she fed, and it was really wearing on her. This whole thing about turning 18, she thought that that was what was causing all this strain.
And for the most part, she was right.
Within the next five minutes, the two had ordered their food, and not much to her surprise, Aurora’s headache had doubled, if that was at all possible. She had finally let Jeremy ramble on, the idea of conflict making her cringe. Suddenly, even as dull as her senses had become lately, she smelled something that was just calling her name. And what her brain was telling her was in the form of a young girl in the alleyway, just waiting to be bitten.
“You…I’ll be right back.”
“Where are you going love?”
“Okay, one, don’t call me that. Two, the bathroom. Still, while I’m gone, work on trying to keep your mouth shut, I promise that it will come in handy someday.” Walking off towards the back of the restaurant, she turned on her heal suddenly, walking behind a waiter that was going towards the front. He ignored Aurora as she stooped beside him, quickly walking out the double oak doors and out onto the brightly lit street. Shielding her eyes against the suddenly too bright streetlamps, she found the source of the aroma that was calling to her. Blindly she made her way, not even taking notice to the thing that was already hovering over her long awaited prize. Raising up its head, the other supposed human turned around to face Aurora, her eyes growing bigger at the realization as to who this person really was.
“Way?”
“Hello Aurora. Nice night to be out alone. In the city. Or are you?”
“What? Alone?”
“Yes, alone love.” He replied as nice as he could, trying to keep his cynical side out of this conversation.
“Don’t-don’t call me love.” She stammered, eyes going hazy once more on her.
“Are you alright? You seem a bit…out of it.”
“I-I haven’t…I’m feeding right now. Senses are all over-loaded. You know all about that of course…vampire prince and all…” Aurora trailed off, one hand on her hip, the other over her mouth, making sure that she wouldn’t tear him apart with her bare teeth. The smell of the blood was thick in the air and there was a small streak of it running down Gerard’s chin. It had been so long since she had her fill that she was actually considering mauling this guy for the small bit on him.
“Dear lord.” She spoke aloud, Gerard looking at her worriedly.
“You’re not doing too well. Come on.”
“Wh-what? I’ve got it. I can do it myself.” He instead listened to none of her complaints, grabbing her hand hastily and dragging her off around a corner and into another alley. He looked at her once and then looked up the fire ladder, signaling for her to go up.
“Trust me.”
“You? Trust Gerard fucking Way. My enemy in arms. Yeah. Mhmm. You know, cause that’s gonna be the smartest thing I ever do. My last breath is gonna be taken on top of some godforsaken rooftop in the middle of New York, you hanging over me with th-“
“Just shut up and go, Please?” Instead of arguing, Aurora took one last look at him, noticing in his eyes that he meant no harm to her, and grabbed the bottom rung, pulling herself up and eventually onto the roof.
There, sitting next to a vent, was a small looking boy, who couldn’t haven been any older than 14. His breath was shallow, but every so often, he would sigh in his sleep, making his chest rise up enough to signal life. She never heard Gerard come up after her, and, when he did speak, she almost fell off the edge that she was so precariously perched on.
“Who is that?”
“David.”
“…wanna elaborate?”
“He’s just this kid. His dad left him and his mom for some 18 year old whore, and, when he left, he took all the money. He had his mom, but then two weeks ago she got shot, trying to run from the police.” He took a side glance at Aurora, pure sadness covering her flawless features.
“I found him a month ago and ever since we’ve just kind of talked. He knows what I am, cause I mean, who is he gonna tell? But ever since his mom, he’s just kinda shut up. Went all recluse on me the other night, the only thing he told me though was that he was sick. I was thinking like cold sick, he was talking like…fucking pneumonia sick. And he’s not gonna make it through the next two months. I know it.” Gerard again looked at her, noticing the small tears forming in the corners of her eyes.
“So…you want me to kill him.” Aurora stated bluntly, looking at the darkly clad figure in front of her.
“Not kill per say, more like, taking away a pain that is only going to get worse, and then end horribly.” Again she looked as if she was going to cry, but only looked down and nodded her head silently, saying something inaudible.
“What?” Gerard asked softly, leaning in and down to her level.
“I said fine, I’ll do it,” She told him, but quickly brought her head up, eyes glazed over with unshed tears, “But only as long as you’re telling the truth about him.”
“About him dying a horrible death, alone and cold in the middle of fucking New York? Well, sweetheart, I’m not.” It was quiet between the two of them for a while before Aurora made her way over to the sleeping figure.
“David? David…hey buddy...” she said gently, waking the boy up slowly. He blinked his eyes a few times, rubbing them and stretching like a cat. He looked at her bewildered, obviously trying to place where he had seen her before.
“I came with Gerard.” She told him, easing his confusion slightly.
“Oh…hi Gerard…what are you doing here?” David asked calmly, looking from him to Aurora.
“Just…out, you know me.”
“Yeah, I know you…are you one of them?” David asked her, motioning to Gerard when he mentioned ‘them’.
“Yes. I am.”
“So why did you come?”
“I was on a…well, I wasn’t on a date, more just out…for dinner…with an idiot, but that’s another story.” She smiled at the kid, finally getting one from him too.
“Are you a friend of Gerards’?”
“Umm, sure. Why not.”
“You’re the other side in all of this, aren’t you?”
“You certainly know a lot about us, don’t you David?” all he did was shrug, and look over at Gerard knowingly. It was quiet when Aurora sat down from her crouching position, Gerard standing as still as a statue. The stillness was disrupted by David taking in a sharp breath, leaning over to Aurora swiftly.
“You’re here to…’help me’ aren’t you?”
“You-you could say that.” She was choking up, not even trying to hide it now.
“Well, I suppose it is best for me. I mean, I know I’m sick, and it would be better than sitting out here, night after night, just letting it get worse and worse.” He continued to talk, her only half listening, the tears now silently soaking her cheeks. Gerard was gazing at her, taking notice to her now wet face. Something pulled at his heart, him not being able to tell if it was David or her, or a combination of both.
‘It’s just David. That’s all. I feel bad for David. I feel bad for David. I feel bad for David.’ Gerard looked at the scene before him, Auroras’ soft smile through her tears; David’s coarse but young voice telling her his story of the past few months.
‘Who the hell am I kidding…myself’ he sulked silently, finally sitting down.
She was hugging her knees, listening intently to his every word. Eventually, the story came up to the point they were at in time, sitting up on the roof, quiet as could be. David let out a sigh, twiddling his thumbs noiselessly. Raising his head, he looked her in the eye, nodding his head and telling her, “I want you to do it. Please. Just…this way I wont have to suffer…and I can see my mom again.” David smiled, and Aurora unraveled herself from herself, scooting over to the boy.
“You have so much faith. And in what? If there was a God, then none of this would have happened. You would still be living in a home, have a family still.”
“I just have the knowledge that this was supposed to happen, and have the hope that there is something much better waiting for me.” Aurora smiled wide this time and leaned in close to the boy’s ear, whispering something that Gerard couldn’t catch. Before he knew it though, his short-time friend was gasping for air, clawing aimlessly at thin air. Gerard could hear the soft sounds of sucking from her, turning his head to the side, not really wanting to hear it. For the first time in his life, another vampire feeding was making him sick, just as she as a person had not an hour and a half earlier that night.
Gerard was sitting there aimlessly, looking off of the side of the building, noticing four very distinct heads. Aurora came up behind him, laying one of her now creamy pale hands on his shoulder. His skin through his black shirt was warm, and she didn’t move her hand for a while, still not sure why she could feel so comfortable around her enemy.
“Thank you.”
“For what.”
“Doing that. I couldn’t see him like that for much longer, and I couldn’t have done it myself…just…thanks.” Standing up, he walked to the edge, looking down at his friends, and debating on whether or not to ‘drop in’. Before he did anything though, he turned around and caught her by surprise. Gerard grabbed her wrist and pulled her in close, their faces not centimeters from each other, breath mingling.
“Can I tell you something, before we both have to go?”
“wha…what?”
“I think I have an obsession with you, love.” He leaned down and caught her lips in a kiss, not really caring if she kissed back or not. She did though, right about when he pulled away and smiled at her, jumping off of the roof and onto the ground below.
“WHAT THE FUCK DUDE?! WHAT DID WE TELL YOU ABOUT DOING THAT?!”
“Not to? Sorry. Come on. We’ve gotta get home.”
“But what about your princess Gee?”
“Oh, its okay. I talked to her…lets go get something to eat. I’m starving.”
~~~
“Where the fuck did you go?”
“Feeding. Sorry. My vision was blurry.”
“Oh, well…I got your food to go…love.” Jeremy smirked, waiting to see what her next emotion would be. To his surprise, she smiled, but her response, none to securing.
“Call me love again, and I will rip it off. I swear.” Aurora picked up her food and smiled sweetly, asking him if he was coming to open up the limo door for her.
“So, what’s on the agenda to-“
